SHMHSS printing: what works best.
How each major decoration method performs on the SHMHSS. The heavy-duty knit, quarter-turned surface is a premium canvas for DTF, screen, and DTG.
DTF (Direct-to-Film)
The heavy-duty knit surface holds DTF detail beautifully with a soft hand, and quarter-turning means no center crease to press over. Use standard cotton press settings and adjust for the Heather Grey and Charcoal Grey blends.
Screen Printing
Heavy-duty knit 100% USA cotton is ideal for plastisol and water-based inks, producing crisp, smooth prints with great coverage on a 7.5 oz canvas.
DTG (Direct-to-Garment)
100% cotton takes DTG well with sharp detail and a soft result. Solid standard-dyed colors give a stable, even base; pretreat dark colors for best ink vibrancy.
Water-Based Printing
Heavyweight cotton is great for soft-hand water-based inks that sink into the fabric, giving a soft, worn-in print feel on a 7.5 oz canvas.
Embroidery
The thick, dense 7.5 oz fabric is well suited to embroidery and supports dense stitch counts with a proper backing.
Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)
Strong bond on heavyweight cotton. Pre-press to flatten the fabric and remove moisture before applying vinyl.
Plastisol Transfers
Handles plastisol transfers well on the stable, dense surface. Standard cotton settings apply for a durable, opaque print.
Puff Printing
The heavyweight body supports puff and dimensional prints well, a popular look on boxy 90s streetwear tees.
Embellishments / Patches
The thick, structured fabric is a strong base for woven patches, appliqué, and chenille for a premium streetwear finish.
Bleaching / Tie-Dye
The 100% USA cotton body takes bleach and tie-dye effects well on solid colors. Test one shirt first, since results vary by color, and skip the Heather Grey and Charcoal Grey blends.
Discharge Printing
Solid standard-dyed 100% cotton discharges well, giving a soft, dyed-in look with no ink layer. Test the exact color first, since discharge results vary by dye batch.
Sublimation
Sublimation needs polyester. Most SHMHSS colors are 100% cotton, so they will not take dye-sublimation. The 50/50 Charcoal Grey Heather may hold a faded, washed-out result. Use DTF or screen printing instead.
Recommended DTF print placements.

Blend colors, sizing, or print questions? Start here.
The SHMHSS is a 7.5 oz max heavyweight tee. Here is how to handle common fabric, print, sizing, and wash-care questions.
Heather Grey is 90% USA cotton and 10% polyester. Charcoal Grey Heather is 50% USA cotton and 50% polyester. All other SHMHSS colors are 100% USA cotton.
Lower the press temperature slightly on blends and test one shirt first. Polyester content can scorch at full cotton settings and may cause dye migration on dark blends.
The SHMHSS is designed with a boxy 90s fit that runs slightly oversized on the chest and length, with slightly oversized sleeves and a slight drop shoulder.
For a more fitted look, size down one size. For the intended boxy streetwear fit, take your normal size. Share the size chart up front.
The SHMHSS is 100% USA cotton at 7.5 oz. As with any 100% cotton tee, minor shrinkage on the first wash is normal.
Advise customers to wash cold and tumble dry low. Wash-test one shirt before a large decorated run so you can size accordingly.
Charcoal Grey Heather is a 50/50 cotton/polyester blend, and polyester dye can migrate into light-colored ink under press heat.
Use a low-bleed or blocker film on dark blends, press at a lower temperature for longer, and test one shirt before large runs.
The heavyweight 7.5 oz fabric can hold moisture, which affects transfer adhesion.
Pre-press 5-8 seconds to flatten and remove moisture before applying DTF or transfers. This gives a cleaner, more durable bond.
Most SHMHSS colors are 100% cotton. Sublimation requires polyester, so dye-sub ink will not bond to this fabric.
Use DTF, screen printing, or DTG for full-color designs on the SHMHSS.
