The 3001 is a lightweight 4.2 oz premium fabric. Here is how to handle common DTF, DTG, HTV, and wash-care questions.
Too much pressure on the lightweight 4.2 oz fabric can press a visible platen or transfer outline into the shirt.
Use medium-high pressure, not heavy, and a press pillow or foam insert to absorb the edge. For DTF transfers, follow your supplier settings; DTF Dallas commonly works around 290-305 degrees F when applicable.
Under-curing or skipped pretreat on dark colors is the most common cause of faded DTG on cotton.
Follow your ink, pretreat, and equipment supplier's curing instructions. A common Airlume cotton workflow uses standard pretreat for dark colors and a controlled cure around 320-330 degrees F for about 90 seconds, but settings may vary.
High heat is the most common cause. Hot water or a high dryer setting flexes the fabric and stresses the cured print layer.
Set clear wash-care expectations: cold wash, inside-out, low tumble dry. Include these instructions with every printed order.
The fabric is pre-shrunk, but hot wash plus high-heat drying can still cause an additional 2-3% shrinkage.
Recommend cold wash and low-heat dry to maintain the shape and softness of the lightweight fabric.
Moisture in the lightweight fabric or insufficient pre-press can prevent a full vinyl bond.
Pre-press the shirt 3-5 seconds to flatten and remove moisture, then apply HTV with medium pressure.
The lightweight 4.2 oz fabric can pucker under dense stitch counts without proper backing.
Use a cut-away stabilizer. For very dense designs, consider a heavier blank such as the Gildan 5000 or 64000.
Most 3001 colors are 100% cotton, which blocks dye-sub ink. Only poly-content colors take sublimation.
Use a polyester blank, or the Heather Prism colors with poly content. For burnout effects, use the 3001CVC blend.
