What Is UV DTF Printing?

UV DTF (Ultraviolet Direct-to-Film) printing produces graphics on specialized film for application to compatible hard surfaces. A prepared transfer combines an adhesive system with UV-cured printed layers, often including white ink, color, and varnish depending on the production system.

Purchased UV DTF transfers from DTF Dallas are applied with pressure. Remove the backing, position and press the design, then remove the clear carrier film. The printed graphic and adhesive remain on the item. You do not need a heat press or an additional UV-curing step.

Which Surfaces Are Suitable?

UV DTF works best on compatible smooth, clean, non-porous hard surfaces. Common projects include glass, glazed ceramic, metal, acrylic, and suitable smooth plastics. Surface coatings, texture, flexibility, cleanliness, and shape can affect adhesion, so test the exact item before a batch.

For wood, use only suitable smooth, sealed or coated surfaces after checking compatibility. Raw, rough, unsealed, or porous wood can prevent full adhesive contact and lead to lifting. A coating alone does not guarantee adhesion; test the actual finish.

Standard UV DTF is not intended for apparel or other fabrics, silicone, rubber, or flexible materials that bend or stretch. Use garment DTF transfers and their heat-press instructions for compatible fabric projects.

How UV DTF Transfers Are Manufactured

How to Apply a DTF Dallas UV DTF Transfer

1. Prepare the surface: Remove dust, oil, moisture, and residue using a cleaning method compatible with the item. Allow it to dry completely.
2. Pre-squeegee: Place the transfer face down, white backing upward, and squeegee firmly across the design two to four times.
3. Remove the white backing: Peel it away slowly. Keep the entire design on the clear carrier film. If part stays on the backing, put the layers together and press that area again.
4. Position: Check placement before adhesive contact. For wraps, begin along one edge and roll the transfer around the item progressively.
5. Apply pressure: Squeegee firmly from the center toward the edges, covering the complete design and avoiding trapped air.
6. Remove the carrier: Peel slowly at a low angle. If a design element lifts, return the film to that spot and press again before continuing.

Follow the product application instructions. Do not use a heat press, iron, or heat gun. Measure cup-wrap designs against the actual item; advertised cup capacity alone does not guarantee a fit.
